Additional Information	The APT is the world’s specialist NGO on the prevention of torture. It works towards a world in which no one is subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, as promised by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; promote outside scrutiny and accountability of institutions where persons are deprived of their liberty, through independent visiting and other monitoring mechanisms; ensure that international, regional and national legal norms for the prevention of torture and other ill-treatment are universally promoted, respected and implemented; strengthen the capacity of national and international actors concerned with persons deprived of their liberty by increasing knowledge and commitments to prevention practices. The APT works in cooperation with detaining authorities that want to prevent torture and ill-treatment.
