Content This course it’s meant to be a general introduction to international human rights, as well as an overview of some specific topics in this field.

The first half of the course starts by defining some fundamental notions of public ethics and political theory.
It then turns to the historical evolution of human rights and its main legal documents.

After that, the course goes on to study civil and political rights and economic, social and cultural rights, as well as their underlying values, liberty and equality.

Having dealt with all these matters, the course then focuses on human rights violations as well as the means to protect them in the domestic and international realms, including regional systems and international criminal law.

During the second half of the course, we study some specific issues of major interest in the international human rights agenda, including the rights of women, the rights of children, indigenous rights, armed conflicts, terrorism, the environment, anti-corruption, transitional justice and copyright law.
