Objetivos The programme aims to provide an intensive immersion in international human rights law and practice. Students will learn about key international and regional human rights laws and the enforcement of human rights by courts, quasi-judicial bodies, the UN and other inter-governmental organisations and non-governmental actors. The introductory morning session aims to provide a basic grounding in the field of international human rights law for students with no prior knowledge. The advanced morning seminars aim to build on students' existing knowledge. The afternoon electives aim to provide students with an opportunity to specialise in a key sub area of international human rights law or international humanitarian law. More broadly, the programme is intended to prepare participants to contribute to the improvement of human rights conditions in their homelands and around the world.

Contenido The course offerings focus on the theory and practice of international human rights law. Lectures and classes are scheduled in the morning and afternoons. The introductory morning course in the Fundamentals of International Human Rights Law provides participants with an in-depth understanding of relevant laws, legal principles, obligations and enforcement machinery. Students that have already studied international human rights law or can demonstrate significant professional experience in the field may opt to take the advanced morning seminar in Human Rights Advocacy. The afternoon electives allow more in-depth study of a particular specialised area of international human rights law. In addition, the programme includes a human rights film series, a careers panel and a lecture series by some of the leading authorities and actors in the field of international human rights law.

Metodología empleada The programme begins on Sunday 8 July. Programme orientation and library registration are held on Monday 9 July. Classes are held mornings and afternoons Tuesday 10 to Friday 13 July, Monday 16 to Friday 20 July, Monday 23 to Thursday 26 July and Monday 30 July to Wednesday 1 August. Friday 27 July is a reading day. Examinations will be held on Friday 3 August and the programme concludes at 09:00 on Saturday 4 August.

Título, diploma o certificado otorgado All students who satisfactorily complete the programme will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.

Procedimiento para la inscripción North American applicants should apply through the George Washington University Law School with whom the programme is jointly run. All other applicants should apply through Oxford University by completing and returning the application form and supplying the supporting materials listed below.
Requisitos de admisión The course is suitable for participants with some pre-existing knowledge of international human rights law and also those that have no prior knowledge, but can demonstrate a commitment to human rights. We particularly welcome applications from law and international relations students, practicing lawyers or members of the judiciary, members of the armed forces, government officials and individuals working for non-governmental and inter-governmental organisations.
Becas Unfortunately, neither the University of Oxford nor the George Washington University can provide funding for this course.
