Objetivos This course is aimed at development practitioners working in the field of children's rights who are planning or considering undertaking an analysis of the situation of children's rights. The course will enable participants to understand the concepts and principles of human rights/children's rights and their application in the production of an analysis of the degree to which children realise their rights and the factors and obstacles that prevent them. Participants will consider strategies and practical approaches appropriate to their own CRSA needs and will have the opportunity through individual and group assignments to practice the use of rights based analysis tools and to consider the practical challenges in planning and managing a CRSA process.

Metodología empleada This certificate course involves approximately 30 hours of reading, on-line working groups, interaction with students and instructor, webinars and assignments, and is offered over a six-week period. The course is based on a participatory, active learning approach, with an emphasis on critical reflection and peer-to-peer learning. The course instructor will provide individualised feedback where appropriate. Participants will do the required readings, prepare interim and final assignments and participate in group discussions.

Requisitos de admisión The course is intended for development practitioners working in the field of children's rights who are planning or considering undertaking an analysis of the situation of children's rights, staff members of development and children's rights/social justice organisations, including NGOs like Child to Child, Plan International, Save the Children, SOS Children's Villages, World Vision and UN specialised agencies like UNICEF. Candidates should have a good written command of English and have high competence and comfort with computer and Internet use. It is assumed that applicants are familiar with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and with the basic concepts of programming (e.g. the programme cycle, including: situation analysis, setting priorities, implementation, monitoring and evaluation), and have a basic understanding of good practice in child advocacy or relief and development work. HREA aims to ensure equal gender and geographical distribution across the selected participants.
