Objetivos |
The main objectives of the course are to make the participants aware of the different facets of the linkages between health and human rights and the associated challenges; to develop the knowledge necessary for critical analysis of the existing international and national policies affecting health; and to acquaint the participants with tools that can be employed in order to mainstream and address issues concerning health in policy making. |

Week 1: Normative concepts of the right to health as a human right; linkages between right to health and other human rights
Week 2: Sexual and reproductive rights; health and human rights linkages in the context of violence against physical integrity of human beings
Week 3: HIV/AIDS, other infectious diseases and human rights
Week 4: Mental and physical disabilities, health and human rights
Week 5: Globalisation and the human right to health including implications of international trade, intellectual property rights and labour
Week 6: Health as a development issue: human development policies, Millennium Development Goals and health |

Metodología empleada |
This e-learning course involves approximately 40 hours of reading, interaction with students and instructors on discussion boards, and webinars. The course is based on a participatory, active learning approach, with an emphasis on critical reflection and peer-to-peer learning. |

The course is intended for health professionals, health and human rights academics, advocates, and practitioners who seek a balance of education and work at the institutional and community levels. Candidates should have a good written command of English and have high competence and comfort with computer and Internet use. HREA and the UPEACE Human Rights Centre aim to ensure equal gender and geographical distribution across the selected participants. |
