Objectives The Venice Academy of Human Rights is a centre of excellence for human rights education, research and debate. It forms part of the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation which is a leading institution for research and education in Europe. The mission of the Venice Academy is to provide an enriching transdisciplinar forum for emerging ideas, practices and policy options in human rights research, education and training. The Academy hosts distinguished experts to participate in critical and useful research, innovation and exchange of current knowledge.

Content The general theme of the Venice Academy of Human Rights 2012 is “The Limits of Human Rights.” The aim is not a denial of the importance of human rights but an unvarnished look at discrepancies between human rights thought and scholarship as opposed to the realities in politics and in the field.

Methodology used Participants attend lectures, small seminars, and workshops. An important part of the programmes is the opportunity to participate in high level round table exchanges of views, ideas, and arguments with leading international scholars and other experts.

Degree/Certificate At the end of the session, participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance issued by the Academy.
Number of participants A maximum of 55 participants is selected for each session.
Application procedure For the application you will need to:

- Fill in the application form with your personal data, contact details
and describe your motivation for applying for the Academy (max. 500 words).

- Send the following documents as attachments to veniceacademy@eiuc.org:
1. The application form (only PDF).
2. Your CV indicating your studies and past experiences in the field (PDF,
DOC, DOCX or RTF).
3. Proof of current enrolment in a Ph.D./J.S.D. programme in human rights,
international law or political science (international relations),
or
proof(s) of professional experience/employment of at least two years in one
of the above mentioned areas (if possible only one single PDF file).
Admission requirements Participants must be
currently enrolled in a Ph.D./J.S.D. programme in human rights, international law, political science, international relations, philosophy, sociology or related subjects,
orhave work experience of at least two years in one of these fields in an international or non-governmental organisation, or work on human rights issues for a government authority or in academia.
Scholarship The Academy does not offer scholarships.
Tuition/Accommodation The registration fee for the Venice Academy of Human Rights 2012 is 500 EURO. It includes the enrolment fee, the learning material, the facilities at the EIUC venue (including wireless access), the lunches during the week and social events. The registration fee does not include accomodation.
